A women had to protect her breasts via copyright, to win a humiliating case against an ex-boyfriend. A court now awarded her over $6.000.000,- in damages.
An American woman has sued her ex-boyfriend, after he had distributed intimate photos of her online. The photo’s were taken when the two were still together, but after the couple broke up, the man retaliated by distributing the images on the internet.
The woman filed a complaint for stalking, deliberately causing emotional stress, online identity falsification and, remarkably, copyright infringement.
However, in order to claim damages in a US court case, it is necessary to register for copyright. This was necessary for some websites to delete images. Many websites don’t comply with such a request if no copyright is established.
In order to regain her privacy, the woman had to protect her breasts via a copyright registration.
