Mitsubishi has given this name a logo and linked the name to their car. Due tot the popularity of the car PHEV has become a brand. Probably this was planned but this brand has great limitations: PHEV remains a descriptive word. For example, the EUIPO refused the registration of this logo. Because of the common word PHEV and the graphic elements that do not add sufficient distinctiveness.
A common name tells the consumer everything. But has clear limitations as we see. Everybody can use this word and therefore everybody can take advantage of the name building of Mitsubishi.
