Risk of confusion, that is what we, trademark practitioners, want to prevent. But with the globalization of the world this is sometimes a hard task. Internet creates one big market place, ignoring borders. This results in sometimes identical trademarks that meet each other on the internet.
Also individuals with exactly the same names are causing some confusion. And with the use of geographical apps, names of cities seem not that distinctive. Heading to Barcelona? Where, in Colombia, UK, Venezuela or Spain? Seems to be clear at first but you sometimes hear stories of people flying 36 hours just to find out that they arrived in the wrong city.
