Russian Railways is suing Apple over trademark infringement. An app in the App Store is using their logo with our permission.
Europe’s state railways continue to pick up steam in their lawsuits against Apple. Last year is was Swiss Railways that was not amused by Apple copying its clock design in iOS 6. In the end the matter was with a licensing agreement, reportedly around $21 million.
And now it’s the Russians suing the Cupertino company for 2 million roubles (approx. EUR 60.000), for condoning an app that uses Russian Railway’s logo.
“RZD intends to protect its intellectual property, especially since the trademark is well known in the Russian Federation,” Russian Railways notes in its statement.
Normally, Apple stays out of these battles. They just simply remove the app form the App Store until the matter is settled between the parties. Meanwhile, it seems that the app maker has already changed the logo, removing the logo altogether.
