Audi may be planning a new variant of the R8 sports car, inspired by the Nürburgring. The German auto manufacturer recently filed a trademark for “R8 Green Hell” in the European Union. The Nürburgring is famously nicknamed “Green Hell”, as an expression of the dangerous and intimidating character of the track through the woods of the Eifel mountains.
The trademark isn’t proof of a new model; automaker often file trademark applications for certain names, without having a new model in the works. It’s a way to secure names automakers might want to use in the future.
It is interesting what the owners of the Nürburgring think about the use of its nickname by Audi.
