China is upping its IP game. In the last years China has updated its trademark laws, showing that it is serious about IP. As one of the biggest economies in the world, it should be. But China still has the stigma of being a copycat-country.
It is getting less and less true, but every once in a while a blatant attempt to copy a famous mark rears its ugly head.
Markmatters.com noted a clear violation of trademark rights: Scottonsoda. Presumably meant to copy the famous fashion brand Scotch & Soda.
Unfortunately it is up to the owner to spend money and take action. Although not particularly expensive in China, it is very time consuming.
