Dia de los Muertos, the day of the dead, is a national memorial day in Mexico. On this day the dead are honored. People often go to the graves and make these clean. Then they offer food and drinks to the dead.
Dia de los Muertos is also the name of a new film of Pixar (Disney) about this Mexican national day. After it became public that Disney has filed this name as a trademark many criticized the trademark application. A holy day such as this day should not be the subject of a trademark (and be owned by one company). Some people even began an online petition and received within a few days 19,000 signatures!
Meanwhile, Disney announced that they have withdrawn the application because they have changed the name of the movie. It’s a good lesson for every trademark holder: filing a trademark might be your second nature but always keep in mind the possible reaction of the public with some names.
