John Oliver, British host of late-night news satire program “Last Week Tonight”, has sought to trademark the word “Drumpf” in an effort to dismantle Donald Trump’s quest for the Republican presidential nomination.
The trademark registration was filed on February 26, just two days before Oliver’s HBO show aired a segment that quickly went viral about the popularity and allure of Trump as the Republican presidential front-runner.
Oliver, a comedian who once worked as a correspondent on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”, laid into Trump’s financial failures and bombastic statements.
According to the comedian, the word “Drumpf” has a specific ring to it: “It’s the sound produced when a morbidly obese pigeon flies into the window of a foreclosed Old Navy.”
Oliver is also selling hats emblazoned with the phrase “Make Donald Drumpf Again”, a parody on Trump’s campaign phrase “Make America Great Again”.
Given Trump’s history, he will probably sue the comedian and make a big media circus out of it.
