Fabergé diamonds (2)

faberge - faberge restaurant brooklynThis week a US federal court ordered Faberge, a Brooklyn restaurant, to come up with a new name by the end of August. The restaurants was summoned by luxury jeweller Faberge to stop using their name.

Restaurant Faberge opened last fall in Brooklyn New York, in a neighbourhood that has a large Russian immigrant population.

According to Fabergé not only the name was “stolen”, also the distinctive facade of gold and purple diamonds at Fabergé’s London boutique was copied. A clear breach of intellectual property.

Restaurant owner Vladislav Yusufov was clear: “We sell steaks, not jewellery”. But finally he chose to settle the matter: “It was a business decision that it would be less expensive just to comply with their demands rather than fighting it out.”

The court also ordered Yusufov to pay Fabergé $25,000 due to damages.

The restaurant has covered up its signage in the meantime.
