Guerilla in the tube

Puzzled faces but many smiling people. That is lately a common reaction in the underground of London where a guerilla action has taken place: stickers with warnings such as “No eye contact. Penalty £200.” and “Peak hours may necessitate you let other people sit on your lap” are plastered in the underground everywhere.

The joke is not only about the funny warnings, but also about the confusion whether or not these are official signs. At least in first instance everybody thinks that they are official as these signs are using the same color and font as genuine London Underground signs.

This is a nice example of how fonts, colors and even the position of signs have distinctive power. While MarkMatters.com enjoys this kind of rebellion, the London Underground sees this as “unwanted vandalism that causes criminal damage”.
