In an earlier post we already mentioned the commotion about the Roberto Cavalli logo (left). In short, according to the Sufi Muslims this Cavalli logo resembles their holy symbol for Allah / God.
To make him change his mind, the protestors started a Twitter campaign under # takeoffjustlogo. Why not put the pressure on? Despite this protest Roberto Cavalli just continues with JustCavalli.
Legal attempts were neither successful till now. A cancellation action against the European trademark was dismissed. The OHIM did not found any evidence that this logo would be contrary to morality or public order.
But now there’s a new development: the leader of the school of Sufi Muslims has filed an opposition against the application of the logo in the US. The opposition is based on an earlier trade mark of their sacred symbol. But wait a moment. It is not allowed to use a device that is more or less similar to a religious symbol but registering this symbol yourself for jewelry and clothing would be perfectly normal? Sounds rather contradictory to us!
