Society’s issues are often reflected in the trademark register. We have seen trademark applications for the word Brexit, Covfefe and now for the word ‘knee’.
You couldn’t have missed it: in America many NFL football teams ‘took the knee’ and kneeled during the national anthem, as a protest against racism and police brutality in the US. This protest was met by strong words from president Trump, stating these players should be fired from their respective teams.
Last month the US trademark register mentioned almost a dozen trademarks with the word ‘knee’ in it. Remarkable.
