Romania’s most famous club had their trademark registration cancelled by Romania’s High Court, after losing a law suit over their trademark. A law suit filed by the country’s defence ministry no less. The ministry claimed that the club had used the Steaua brand illegally since 2004, and the court decision left the club nameless.
In their last match, the team played in yellow jerseys, instead of their famous red and blue shirts, and were announced as “the champions of Romania”. On the scoreboard the club appeared as “hosts”, and the club’s emblem was replaced by an empty square.
The club will get its identity back, as soon as they reach an agreement with the defence ministry over the use of the trademark.
