NIN-issue

Notley Iveson NenshiThe well known band Nine Inch Nails have sent a “polite” letter to three politician from the Canadian state of Alberta who are using a parody on their band logo.

So what happened here? Alberta premier Rachel Notley, Edmonton mayor Don Iveson and Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi have show off their “Notley Iveson Nenshi” t-shirts, promoting “building a better Alberta”. The t-shirts were made by changing the official Nine Inch Nails band logo.

The political message was overshadowed by the trademark issue though: “We got advice that there were some concerns about the trademark and essentially to cease and desist,” Iveson said. As for whether he received one of the T-shirts, Iveson responded with a laugh: “On the advice of my attorney, I can’t comment.”

Naheed Nenshi’s office says it is not aware of any legal ramifications, and only three shirts were made with no intention of producing on a large scale for retail.
