The symbol has been created in 1958 by British designer Gerald Holtom. The symbol was designed in order to support the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmement.
According to the USPTO the peace sign is a “universal symbol that retains its message in all context.” So, it “fails to function as a mark.” The color purple which was added did not make the trademark registrable.
Well, actually it is line with the symbol that it belongs to everybody. It should be ironic when there would be a trademark fight over a peace sign, wouldn’t it?
