Pauwel Kwak is a Belgian beer with a fruity and malty aroma, slightly spiced, with hints of nougat and caramelized banana. It is brewed by the Bosteels Brewery, a brewery that is owned by the same family for seven generations. Sounds good!
Kwak beer is best known for its unique glass. This glass was developed at the time of Napoleon when a coachman could never leave his carriage for a beer. But, no worries, the glass holder was simply attached to the carriage and so the coachman had his beer.
The glass and the glass holder have been registered in the Benelux since 1980. This registration was used to try stop another beer manufacturer from using a similar glass and holder. The other manufacturer registered his glass with the shape of an upside down cone as a 3D mark, but did not register the holder. And so the Benelux Office rejected the opposition, because it found the glasses to be far from similar.
