Pistol Paul is one of better-known Dutch criminals. In America you have Pistol Pete, the nickname of Frank Eaton who first learned how to shoot and then avenged his murdered father (those were different times). Later on in his career he wrote two books.
Pistol Pete is the mascot of the University of Oklohoma. A dangerous-looking cowboy with rifle.
The University of Oklahoma has now started a lawsuit against a university in New Mexico, which is also using Pistol Peter as a mascot. And quite long, according to their website. The ground for objection is risk of confusion.
If it’s true that the New Mexico State University is using the mascot since the fifties, it might be hard to convince the court that a risk of confusion is at hand. But that strongly depends on the facts and circumstances. So, let the fight over Pistol Pete begin!
