South Island

etiketAfter the Giant Mistake on Monday, we stick to wines, especially wines from New Zealand (which we can recommend). Woolworth has filed the label of the wine South Island in New Zealand. This was not a good idea, call it a mistake as the wine industry in New Zealand objected against this application.

They feared a monopoly on the use of the indication of origin South Island on wine labels. The Trademarks Office of New Zealand now ruled that the trademark is not distinctive and rejected it.

Perhaps a logical decision, but kind of strange when you think that the label consists of the words South Island as well as a graphic representation of a mountain. Especially the latter is quite distinctive.
