Steve Jobs clothing

The website Patently Apply reports that the trademark Steve Jobs has been filed in Turkey for clothing and selling clothing. The owner of this application thinks that the name Steve Jobs has value and that with this name the products will be easier sold.

That the name of a famous person has value is of course true. But it feels wrong in the event someone can obtain this value without the permission of the famous person or his or her heirs. Whereas in some countries it is not possible to file this kind of trademarks without being the person or without permission, in most countries you can register famous people as a trademark. Apple or the heirs might invoke the bad faith of this application or they might argue that Steve Jobs is a famous brand, but they will have to start a legal action either way. One of the downsides of being famous.
