FC Barcelona has backed down from a trademark fight with sportswear company adidas by abandoning a trademark application.
Earlier we reported that the German sports company had filed a notice of opposition to Barca’s trademark application for a red and blue striped design, described as a “square containing seven vertical stripes”, covering goods such as t-shirts, footwear, posters, photographs, tennis balls and rackets.
adidas stated that FC Barcelona’s trademark “incorporates parallel stripes in a manner confusingly similar to the ‘three-stripe’ mark in appearance and overall commercial impression”.
Now, the football club appears to have backed down; FC Barcelona withdrew its trademark application with adidas’s consent. Consequently, the opposition has been dismissed.
