The world cup is ‘food’ for marketeers: yesterday we saw the Van Persie Jersey, today it’s Luis Suárez’ turn.
Probably the most talked about event during the World Cup has been Uruguayan striker Suárez biting (yes, biting!) Italian defender Chiellini in his shoulder. The social media exploded with images featuring Suárez: Suárez as Jaws, Suárez as Hannibal the Cannibal, etc.
Now even real products are emerging: such as the Suárez nipple clamp. A Swedish sex shop came up with the idea. For 33 euro the tension of the clamp can be adjusted to the ‘mood’ in the room.
Owner Tobias Lundqvist does not think he is crossing any (legal) boundaries: “Maybe Suárez is a somehow proud to spread a little love and joy, despite his actions on the pitch.”
From a legal perspective, Suárez may be able to fight this based on his rights to his own portrait. However, it might be best to just let it be.
