Donald Trump has lost a trademark law suit to a trumpet player over the name iTrump.
Tom Scharfeld, a 40-year-old-engineer and amateur musician, created an iPhone app designed to teach people how to play the trumpet: iTrump.
This month, Scharfeld won his grueling six-year legal fight against Donald Trump. The best thing about the case: Scharfeld triumphed without the help of a lawyer!
The fight has taken its toll. Scharfeld said he’s been unable to market the app in the way he wanted, but now he can focus. Trump’s lawyers “didn’t seem to expect that I could do this,” Scharfeld said. “We won all the claims and defeated those against us.”
Well done Scharfeld! To paraphrase William Christopher Handy: “A trademark law suit is something like a trumpet. If you don’t put anything in, you won’t get anything out.”
