The McDonald’s logo – the golden arches – is one the most recognizable logo’s in the world. Recently, we heared that McDonald’s India announced a big colour makeover. Is McDonald’s going to change is world famous logo and colors?
McDonald’s allegedly will loose its trademark red-and-yellow colours and replace them for more muted colors, in order to communicate a more mature look. Also, the interior of the McDonald’s restaurant will incorporate less intrusive colours.
The reason for this change is that McDonald’s wishes to attract more adult consumers, instead of just kids. The new color combination should assist them in doing that.
Although MarkMatters.com understands that logo’s sometimes are restyled and form time to time you have to adjust your marketing and communication to your (new) target audience. However, changing a trademark that is so well-known? You should think twice (of maybe a hundred times) before adopting a “new” trademark.
Coca-Cola hasn’t changed their logo since 1885. They’re still doing okay…
